Pakistan has always had a vibrant music scene. Many female artists have earned much acclaim and respect in the classical, folk, and other traditional forms of music. Pop music remains largely a male artists' domain even today. The late Nazia Hassan was one of the first female pop singers of Pakistan and to this day remains the most celebrated. Though she left us at the young age of 35, Nazia will serve as a role model for Pakistani girls in the field of music for a long time to come.

Also in this issue, we review Kamila Shamsie's novel Kartography about growing up in the Nineties' violence-striken Karachi. It is an enlightening story of friendship, love, and life during times of political conflict and raises some self-evaluating questions regarding events from Pakistan's history.

As always, we welcome constructive criticism and positive feedback. Thank you for visiting Jazbah.org!
