The purpose of this Web site is to honor the achievements of Pakistani women. We will add to the list of profiles each month by introducing different Pakistani women achievers. They have inspired us with their determination and delighted us with their talents. As Pakistanis and as members of the greater world community striving for peace, we must acknowledge that an educated and successful woman can be a pillar of strength not only for her country but for the rest of the world.
In these post 9/11 times it has become imperative for people from Muslim countries to play active roles in world media to create a strong and positive voice for themselves. With that in mind, we launch our Web site this month with the introduction of two Pakistani women who chose print and film media as their forms of expression. The late Razia Bhatti is widely revered as a journalist of great integrity and courage. Fellow journalists consider the role she played in the Pakistani press integral to strengthening the principles of free press in that country. Mehreen Jabbar is a filmmaker whose work comprises thought provoking plays usually dealing with everyday lives of average Pakistanis. While on a sabbatical in New York, Mehreen spoke to us about her experience of working in Pakistan's show business. We, at Jazbah.org, are excited about the official launch of the Web site and hope to hear from our readers. We welcome constructive criticism and, of course, positive feedback.
